Macaulay’s has a clean, neat design and its beauty lies in its simplicity. Often salons that opt for a clean minimal look end up feeling cold, but with the help of a thoughtful designer and some very well crafted furniture, Macaulay’s is class personified.
Broad and spacious, the salon gains its neatness from uniformity of size, shape and line. The strict regimented lines of the reception desk and retail shelving are mirrored through the salon via the styling stations, shampoo units and dispensary cabinetry. All bespoke, this furniture is crafted from mid-oak, a wood colour that has the effect of softening items that could easily look too bland and stark.
The attention to detail is exquisite. The storage area of the styling units is the same height as the retail and dispensary shelving, while the lighting is spaced and balanced to create a clean synergy throughout. Normal thinking would have paved the salon with a light, shiny material, uniform in shape, to increase the brightness and follow the symmetric lines. Here, however, the designers went in a completely different direction. The use of a worn oak floor, complete with knots, stains and uneven colour was visionary, as it gives the salon true warmth and a refined classic finish.
